November 2019 Hours and My Confession

Hours: CLOSED- Saturday, November 23rd Abbreviated hours- Friday, Nov. 29th (8:30- 1:30) CLOSED- Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day

My confession is that I may have only given you part of the solution to holding your adjustment longer and being able to stay healthier.  I'm sorry.  I'm going to right that wrong right now. The truth is that I've always told you that in order to hold your adjustments longer you had to do the daily stretches, sleep with the right size pillow, never sleep on your stomach, never wear a wallet in your back pocket, never wear high heels, take this vitamin or that one, eat clean, organic,  non-gmo foods, bend and lift properly, work out, and a bunch of other OUTSIDE IN approaches to health.  Although those things are important, they are NOT the most important approach to health or the best way to hold your spine in alignment.  These "outside-in" approaches are not the solution you're looking for.  Health can only be achieved from the "Inside-out".

Stress is the cause of all dis-ease and the cause of subluxations.  The world squeezing us, it is pushing in on us from all sides. The only way to overcome the effects of stress is to become stronger on the INSIDE.  We must push back from the inside with more strength than the world can squeeze us from the outside.

So, how do we do that?  What haven't I shared with you until this point?  Well, there are several ways to strengthen ourselves on the inside.  In my experience, the strongest force in this world is LOVE and LIGHTThere is nothing stronger than LOVE in this universe and there is no amount of darkness that can put out the LIGHT of even a single candle.  We must constantly work on filling ourselves with the Strength of LOVE and LIGHT.  THAT ALONE can hold an adjustment longer!  That alone is the answer to your question of "How do I hold an adjustment longer?" and "Why didn't my adjustment last longer?".

For me, as a Christian, I have found the most effective way to fill myself with LOVE and LIGHT is to fill myself with GOD and JESUS.  I base that on verses from the Bible including: ‘God is love’ (1 Jn 4:8b, 4:16b) and ‘God is light’ (1 Jn 1:5; Jn 9:5).  There are other examples in the Bible but suffice it to say that I believe that inner strength, real inner strength, comes from a daily practice of emptying myself of this world and filling myself with LIGHT and LOVE who is God and I do that (as a Christian) by filling myself with Jesus.  That is how I am able to walk through the day with a smile, good cheer, outstanding health and I am able to combat the effects of stress. The world attempts to squeeze me from the outside but Jesus (the Love and Light) within me pushes back and overcomes the world.

Don't get me wrong.  Even though we fill ourselves with Light and Love, things happen in our world that steal our PEACE (Ephesians 6:23 Peace be to the brothers, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. + Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus).  That's why, despite our best efforts, our bodies become subluxated over the course of time and we may become dis-eased.  This is also the reason why my wife and I get checked weekly and travel to Boston and Holyoke regularly to check my adult children and adjust them when they are subluxated.  In other words, my family practices what I preach about Chiropractic and we're not immune to stress either.

I know that everyone is at different places in their walk of faith and that might be a lot to swallow right now.  I respect wherever you are in your walk.  If you're looking for other effective ways to reduce the effects of stress by increasing your inner strength, here are a few excerpts from a GREAT article on ways to become resilient to the effects of stress...

"No. 1: Pump Up Your Positivity “In our research program, we found that the daily repertoire of emotions of people who are highly resilient is remarkably different from those who are not,” says Barbara Fredrickson, PhD, the author of Positivity No 2: Live to Learn The more you can leverage challenges as opportunities to grow and evolve, the more resilient you are likely to be. “Pain comes to all of us in life,” says David Sabine, PhD, a clinical psychologist in Wichita Falls, Texas. “What I see resilient people do is immediately look at the problem and say, ‘What’s the solution to that? What is this trying to teach me?’ Looking at pain as an opportunity to learn and problem-solve — and building the confidence and the habit of moving toward the pain instead of running from it — goes a long way in terms of building resiliency.” No. 3: Open Your Heart Being of service to others is a powerful way of stoking resilience. “In studies, researchers found that serotonin [the neurotransmitter associated with feelings of happiness and well-being] is used more efficiently by people who have just engaged in an act of kindness,” says Sabine. No. 4: Take Care of Yourself Good health — and a regular routine of healthy habits — are foundational to both mental and emotional resilience.  (Everything you can do that has a positive effect on your health requires time and repetition.  Get adjusted weekly or biweekly just like you exercise, sleep, eat, brush your teeth and shower regularly.- Dr. Jay) No. 5: Hang on to Humor There’s a reason that the late Norman Cousins relied on Marx Brothers comedies as a primary treatment for his debilitating illness. It’s the same reason that some version of “gallows humor” and “comic relief” have probably been with us since the beginning of time: Laughing in the face of adversity can be profoundly pain relieving, for both the body and mind. "So What's the Deal with CBD?"

Everyone is asking me about CBD lately.  Truthfully, I don't know a lot about it except from what I've learned from my friend Steve Schultz who works for a company that's producing it pharmaceutically  and did a great interview with Rolling Stone Magazine about it.  Click here to read it

I've also been educated about it's potential benefits by my daughter and her friend who suggested it to me when my back was injured in 2017.  I took it in a capsule form mixed with coconut oil as part of my healing process and you all know that my torn disc healed in less than a month and I was back in the office adjusting with no residual effects.

Many of my friends have had positive personal experiences including my friend Chris who badly tore muscles and ligaments in his lower back as well as tearing his rotator cuff.  Both most likely would have required surgery but he chose to use CBD oil and Chiropractic and after about 6 months is fully functioning and healed.  He and his wife Lisa are Huge advocates now.  They are on a mission to share the benefits of CBD and suggest watching the documentaries about it online to gain more knowledge of this product.

I admit that this is an outside-in approach to healing and I just got done telling you that healing is an inside out job... however... it can be argued that a Chiropractic adjustment is given from outside the body to align the vertebra so the body can heal from the Inside-out.  Perhaps, because so many dis-eases are being helped by CBD, it too is given to the body from the outside to assist the body in healing from the Inside-out.  As of now, I'm still learning and keeping an open mind to the possibilities.  I suggest you watch the short clip below to learn a little more and then watch the literally dozens of TEDx talks and researchers that support the use of CBD for a myriad of dis-eases.

One thing I have learned, however, is that many of the products on the market being touted as CBD oils, do not in fact have any CBD oil in it or have so little that it will have not beneficial effects.  Be sure that if you are going to buy any product that professes to have CBD in it, that it comes from a reputable source that has been tested in an independent laboratory and contains what it says it does.

Here's another good video you can watch that's only a few minutes... https://youtu.be/1_crWo6LTxE

Lots of you ask me if I'm a vegetarian... In truth, when I needed to heal from bad injuries or dis-eases, I was a very strict VEGAN and I healed faster than anyone could have anticipated.  I have proved this over and over again. So, if you ask me what the healthiest diet is, it's going to be, hands down, based on EVERY credible study I have read, a VEGAN diet.  Do I eat meat now and then (probably way more often than I should)?  YES.

I suggest you watch the new documentary out on Netflix called The Game Changers.  It's a revolutionary new film about meat, protein and strength featuring some of the best athletes in the world who eat exclusively plant based proteins.  Click Here to watch the film before you decide if this Thanksgiving would be better with Meat or if it would be better Meatless... https://gamechangersmovie.com/the-film/where-to-watch/

Well, that's all Folks! Inner strength, CBD oil, and a Vegan lifestyle. That should be enough to think about until next month!

In Health and Faith, Dr. Jay, Kathy, Roberta, Elli and Lori
